Sound-dampeners behind bipolar speakers?

I have this idea that putting a small 24x24 inch chunk of sound absorbing foam material behind my bipolar speakers would make them sound better. I just wonder if the echo off the bare wall from the rear-firing speakers are adding garbage to the sound.

What do you think?
