My current favorite spot at home (or car) is here at my computer desk.
Running Alesis Monitor One MkII's off an older Scott Integrated Amp.
Their near-field studio monitors - cant get enough of the sound!
What's everyone else's favorite setup right now?

Re: Favorite setup you have at the moment?
Wed, December 1, 2004 - 2:13 PMthis is my friends rig. At the time we bought very similar gear as we did all the research together and came to many of the same conclusions. I just did not have the excess scratch to pony up for the meridian though. Damn!

Pro Tools 6.4 w/ MBox
pair of Mackie HR824's
Crystal clear sound - incredibly accurate. A few mixes done with this I took to the THX mix theater at ARTI Orlando, and sounded very balanced. So, I guess I got this one right!!!

Benchmark DAC1
Bryston BP-25
Dynaudio BM6A Studio Monitors
I love this setup, it's so compact and simple. The Bryston and the Benchmark are each only 1U high. The powered monitors eliminate the need for a power amp and speaker cables. Everything is connected with pro audio balanced interconnects which are very inexpensive compared to the tweeky audiophile cables. I have a 30 ft run between the Bryston and the Dynaudios.
I've listened to quite a few DACs and the Benchmark was my favorite - it's also a fantastic headphone amp. (I compared it to my McCormack Micro Drive and sold the McCormack). -

Tue, March 15, 2005 - 12:51 PMhow do you find the DAC with the computer output compares to a very high end CD player? I have been toying with the idea of this arrangement for a while.
also, does the BM6A use the dynaudio esotar tweeter? -

Re: Favorite setup you have at the moment?
Sat, March 26, 2005 - 12:00 PMI couldn't hear any difference between the computer and the digital out of the CD player driving the DAC. If you have a resonably large CD collection having your tracks on the computer can really change the way you listen to your music. For example, I have a playlist of Miles Davis tracks from the 1950s that runs for about 5 1/2 hours. Everytime I start the playlist the tracks are played in random order. I typically only listen to the playlist for an hour so each time I listen I get to hear some new tracks.
The BM6A uses the Esotec 28 mm soft dome tweeter. I listen to quite a range of music from old low fidelity reggae to state of the art jazz recordings. Everything sounds quite good on the BM6As.
I had a pair of Thiel 1.5s I listened to for over 6 years. I really liked them but the tweeters could be a bit fatiguing although cymbols and brass sounded amazingly realistic. I moved to a smaller listening room and the Thiels just didn't work. You really need to sit at least 12 ft from them for the magic to happen. I can sit quite close to the BM6As and they still sound great.
