From Analogue-Heaven.. had to pass it on!

Tell your audiophile friend that if he really wants the very best
sound, the only way to go is with Gold Solder. That's right, Gold.
It makes that silver solder stuff look like something from Radio
Shack. Now, we don't want you spreading this information around to
just anyone, so try to keep it on the down-low. You can tell your
friend about it, but don't tell him where you heard it.
BTW, the Gold Solder sounds best when soldered with a Platinum Tip
soldering iron. The industry-standard Weller soldering tip is the
Weller PT7. The special Platinum Tip version of that is the PT-PT7.
Afterward. the excess flux should be cleaned off using a 40/60
mixture of 98% pure alcohol and Nicolas Feuillatte Palmes D'orGrand
Cuvee 1985 Champagne -- and always from a freshly opened 750 ml
magnum. When done with the flux cleaning, immediately pour any
excess bubbly down the drain. Your Gold Solder joints will somehow
know if you have betrayed them by selfishly drinking any of the flux
remover, and as a result, your audio will have a poorly-defined
soundstage, noticeably attenuated "air", flatulently loose low-end,
and a curious 2.1dB bump at around 4.3 KHz.
But again, keep it on the down-low.

Re: Best Solder
Tue, May 16, 2006 - 1:03 PMLOL funniest thing I've read in a while, but you forgot that the whole thing needs to be sterilized in an autoclave to remove any impurities to the solder joint followed with a cryogenic treatment.
